Here’s my take on John Prine’s reliable heartbreaker. There are about a million versions out there, but I hope I’m bringing something to the party here.
Haven’t done anything in Open D yet, so that’s the tuning this week. It’s a rich sound: DADF#AD, capo at 3rd fret for the key of F.
I’ll continue to talk in roman numerals* but the actual chords are: I - F; IV - Bb; bVII - Eb and iv - Bbm for the tag on the second chorus.
Many thanks to the Six Bells, Chiddingly
Next week - “Pancho & Lefty” by Townes Van Zandt
* if there’s interest, I’ll do a little primer on understanding chords by their position in the scale, rather than by name. It helps a lot, especially when you get into open tunings, where traditional chord shapes get a bit wiggly
