Heartsong of barflies everywhere, as told by the master. Speaking of insects: Can’t say I’ve ever jammed with them before, but apparently my local crickets have a decent sense of rhythm. Now, if I could only get the birds to sing with me…
I started noodling around with this at the same time I was figuring out Nick Drake’s Pink Moon, so the tuning is the same. Why not? It’s CGCFCE. No capo this time, for the key of C.
I’ll continue to talk in roman numerals* but the actual chords are: I - C; IV - F; V - G; ii - Dm and vi - Am.
Next week - “Angel From Montgomery” by John Prine
* if there’s interest, I’ll do a little primer on understanding chords by their position in the scale, rather than by name. It helps a lot, especially when you get into open tunings, where traditional chord shapes get a bit wiggly
